July 09, 2012 21:58 IST
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday said that Bollywood actor Aamir Khan is welcome in the state to create awareness and popularise generic drugs among people.

"Aamir Khan is welcome in Bihar for creating awareness and popularise generic drugs among people," Kumar told newspersons.

Kumar said that if Aamir Khan will visit Bihar for this purpose it will help the state government.

He said in reference to Bihar Health Minister Ashwani Kumar Choubey's announcement that he had approached Aamir Khan in this connection.

"I had requested Aamir Khan to lead a campaign to help Bihar government to create awareness
about generic drugs," Choubey earlier said.

Choubey said that the government will officially announce the campaign programme after receiving a confirmation communication from Aamir.

"We hope that a sensitive actor like Aamir Khan will accept our request to lead this campaign," Choubey said.

Choubey admitted that though the state government has decided to provide generic medicines in all government hospitals and health centres, it is yet to be implemented.

He said that last year the government ordered the supply of only generic medicines to health centres for free distribution among patients.
