The Rediff Indian of the year

The Nominations...

Name:Neeraj Thakur
Email:neeraj_thakur@hotmail.com
Nomination:Amartya Sen
Reason why:He made India proud by winning the Nobel Prize. More so, he has become the pathbreaker in being recognised for his work in developmental economics -- a bad word in the current market driven economic world. He shows the relevance of developmental efforts for the development of the society.

Name:Hirak Kanti Dutta
Email:hirakdutta@usa.net
Nomination:Indian voters in the states of MP, Rajasthan and New Delhi.
Reason why:For they showed the country, in general, and the BJP, the ruling party at the Centre in particular, not to take the common man for granted. Salad Mr Onion thrashed and toppled many a czars of Indian politics. Long live the people of the nation.

Name:Rakesh Ojha
Email:elkon@vsnl.com
Nomination:Dr Amartya Sen
Reason why: For putting India back on the global map.

Name:Ahmed Khan
Email:ahmedk10@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:This year SRT has been judged the greatest cricketing legend since Sir Don by his colleagues. Aussie, English, Pakis, WI, NZ, SA -- everyone claims our Sachin is the greatest!!! What a year -- 9 one-day centuries and counting in under 12 months. "Top" cricketers make 9 in a career!! Truly, an example of determination, courage and confidence for Indians of all ages!!!

Name:Philip
Email:philip55@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sonia Gandhi
Reason why:Sonia Gandhi is one woman who had to stand among the worst of politicians in India and listen to their discouraging commentary on her day-in and day-out which were nothing but lies. Also listen to sick comments of the likes of Sushma Swaraj who called her "phoren" and "imported" which reflected more of her character than Sonia's.

She had to stand all alone with no experienced elderly confidante, who could have guided her through the ugliness of Indian politics which stoops to the lowest levels of verbal abuses which is very very hard for a person of integrity to be able to bear.

Sonia decided to willingly go through all this for the sake of the country, party and people of India for whom she cares and she was vindicated on all accounts and is proving to be a lady, thought to be a doll, with a lot of iron!

Name:Samiran Ghosh
Email:samiran_ghosh@mumbai.tcs.co.in
Nomination:The Common Man by R K Laxman
Reason why:He has been the most enduring image of the evolving India. He remains a symbol of the true India and a true embodiment of Indianess.

Name:Nagesh Rama Nayak
Email:nageshn@@bom5.vsnl.net.in
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:Ten centuries in this year alone ie, half of the 20 made since his career began.

Name:S A Alagarsamy
Email:alagarsamy@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sonia Gandhi
Reason why:Married an Indian and never wished to enter politics. Fate decided a different course, and she decided to save the Congress party which received new life under her. As a lady, she was for 33 per cent reservation for women in politics. She is the symbol for tribal welfare. It is because of her decision to dedicate her life for the Indian people that I nominate Sonia as the person of the year.

Name:Ashutosh Garg
Email:ashutosh@aces.co.id
Nomination:Sonia Gandhi
Reason why:Despite all odds, she has managed to keep the Congress together and is supporting the government to achieve difficult reforms needed for the country. Also, she has managed to reach out to the BJP and get India to start an evolution towards a bipartisan approach towards politics, which is so necessary to stay away from the hundreds of caste based parties as well as the single seat "independent" king makers.

Name:Avi Singh
Email:avis@elsa.com
Nomination:Shekhar Kapur
Reason why:Elizabeth -- when India looked beyond itself!

Name:Prashanth Shenoy
Email:pshenoy@hss.hns.com
Nomination:Amartya Sen
Reason why:He has been "quite" a scene stealer. Crept in quietly and edged out the rest. Not known yesterday -- talk of the world today. I think the government should efficiently obtain his services to make India a better place. It is people like him, who make a difference to mankind. I wish we had more folks like him to bail out India from the prevailing situation.

Name:Afaque Ahmad
Email:afaqueahmad@hotmail.com
Nomination:Amartya Sen
Reason why:Well it's a long time since an Indian has won a Nobel Prize. His thorough and deep insight of economics can really be helpful for the Indian subcontinent.

Name:Jayagopal P
Email:jay_gopal@hotmail.com
Nomination:Amartya Sen
Reason why:In a nation devoid of true heroes, Amartya Sen has made us proud by his Nobel Prize. It is of special significance that the award is in recognition of his contribution to welfare economics, a not so glamorous speciality in economics and one which has tremendous relevance in the Indian context. Also Professor Sen is the first non-westerner ever to win the coveted prize.

Name:Siddhartha Singh
Email:siddharthas@aditi.com
Nomination:Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why:For being one politician who doesn't appear to be a blood-sucking money-looting murderer. He may have used those methods to get to the top, but looks like he is motivated to do good.

Name:Narendra Kumar Rath
Email:nkrath@thepentagon.com
Nomination:Atal Bihari Vajpeyee
Reason why:The person with a very clean image as the prime minister of India did not care about the world and went for Pokhran II. The tests have changed the relationship of India with other countries. The test has given Indians the pride that they are citizens of a country which is not less than anyone in the scientific field. He is the prime minister who said: Jaya Jawan, Jaya Kisan, Jaya Vigyan. Jai Hind!

Name:Sanil Mahajan
Email:coolsanil@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:India has always done well in sports in India. But showing the same talent in other countries having different weather as well as physical characteristics is difficult. Sachin has showed to the world that Indians have the ability to do anything. He made the record of scoring the highest number of centuries ever. He never played for himself but played for the country.

Name:Rahul
Email:rraisurana@hotmail.com
Nomination:Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Reason why:The BJP government came to power in March entirely on his credentials. He has been able to run the government and take several critical and important steps (Pokhran, Cauvery, Reservation Bill introduction, buyback etc) despite pressure. I believe the expectations from the government have been much too high and given the state of affairs, courtsey the last 50 years -- A B Vajpayee has still been able to perform well. Yes, prices have been a drawback, but due cognisance must be made to the several factors that led to it -- it would still have happened whichever government was in power.

But clearly, if one recalls the feelings on the day of the Pokhran tests, it certainly made every Indian feel confident and proud, and I do not recollect any other occasion in the last several years when the country's feeling has been so strong -- even though it may have only lasted for a few days. And hence due credit to A B Vajpayee.

Name:Dwarakesh
Email:tiger.iyengar@eudoramail.com

Name:V R Anbu

Email:deshik@usa.net
Nomination:Women MPs
Reason why:For doggedly pursuing the tabling of the Women's Representation Bill.

Name:Nik Wadhwa

Nomination:Abdul Kalam
Reason why:Pokhran-II

Name:Raju Venkatesh
Email:raju_venkatesh@rediff.com

Reason why:In a country short of heroes, he is the only true hero, a shining light in this nation shrouded in darkness. Immensely talented, clean and has a nice smile.

Name:Ekalavya Bhattacharya
Email:ekalavyab@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:Everyone knows why!

Name:Tarana Rrajpal
Email:tarana@vsnl.com
Nomination:Arundhati Roy
Reason why:As I rack my tired brain for a person suitable for this award, I think of various categories from which I can nominate someone -- prize winners, sportsmen, social workers, politicians(?), filmstars, etc. The only person I can think of is Arundhati Roy. Not that I am ignoring Amartya Sen's superb achievement -- it's just that I think he scored that victory more as an individual and less as an Indian. This I feel because I don't think Indians are less talented than any other race or culture.

Arundhati Roy was one of the few Indians who had the sense and the courage to look through the nuclear tests. While the whole of India was rejoicing, she was the only one going around shaking everyone and making them see what a mistake those tests had been inspite of the criticism she got from everyone. Kudos to Arundhati for standing up for what she believed in!

Name:John Jeherd
Email:jjeherd@yahoo.com
Nomination:Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Reason why:One of the finest politician who is leading the BJP today.

Name:Venkatesh Chandrasekharan
Email:cv@webmail.co.za
Nomination:A R Rahman
Reason why:He made the entire country get up and sing Vande Mataram when every Indian was on the verge of forgetting it.

Name:K Duraivel
Email:duraivelk@usa.net
Nomination:Vishwanathan Anand
Reason why:Vishwanath has been an excellent chess player and wonderful sportsperson. He is currently high in the world official chess ranking and really deserves support and encouragement from the government to continue his outstanding performance so that he can win more matches and make every Indian proud. Jai Hind. (Written in national interest).

Name:Rekha Sekhri
Email:sekhri@hd1.vsnl.net.in
Nomination:Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why:Chandrababu Naidu is a man with a mission and vision. He is one politician who has made a difference to the people he serves. He is clear in his ideas, decisive and has the will to carry out his plans even if it means losing out on votes. That's a very courageous thing for a politician who is going to face elections soon. I'm proud to have him as my CM. He's my Indian of the Year

Name:Pankaj Jain
Email:PankajJain@Hotmail.com
Nomination:Pandurang Shastri Athavale
Reason why:The inspiration and founder of Swadhyay Parivar and Swadhyay work is Rev Pandurang Vaijnath Athavale, affectionately known by millions of Swadhyayees as "Dada," a reverential common name for an elder brother.

Rev Dada was born of Brahmin parents in the vallage of Roha near Bombay on October 19, 1920. His father and grandfather were great scholars of Vedic literatures. From childhood Dada was inclined towards Vedic scriptures as Geeta. He mastered many languages like Sanskrit, English and several local dilects. At a very early age, he acquired a deep and clear understanding of scriptures, logic, grammar, Greek and European philosophy, Sanskrit and English literature, comparative religions and history.

Reason why:He is a great economist and has made Indians proud by winning the Nobel Prize.

Name:Rakesh Chaudhary

Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:For raising cricket to a new level. For providing Indians with a reason to feel ecstatic and proud, at a time when the political and economic scenario is disgusting.

Name:Jayan
Email:je_se@iname.com
Nomination:A B Vajpayee
Reason why:He single-handedly carried his government in the face of a sustained attack both from the opposition and from his own coalition partners. The Pokhran explosions have only added spice to it.

Name:Sankar Padmanabhan
Email:sankarnp@theads.net
Nomination:Dr Abdul Kalam
Reason why:Unquestionably the most high profile scientist in the nuclear field, he has given hope and strength for helping India become a world power.

Email:vijay@rabox.com
Nomination:Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Reason why:Good Indian.

Name:Prasad Paruchuri

3. For not being discouraged in spite of a hostile press.

Name:Ved Prakash Middha
Email:vpmidd@gwr1.dot.net.in

Reason why:He has shown to the world that we can think globally about our own problems. And not only that, we have solutions, which can work. A political will is all that is needed.

Name:Anil Saxena
Email:anil.saxena@vsnl.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:No other Indian has the power to turn the mood of most Indians from despair to euphoria, except him, and he did it this year consistently.

Name:Rahul Rankavat
Email:rankavat@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar
Reason why:There are many who have excelled in their fields and others who have achieved a lot in groups but one man outshines them all. He has given millions of Indians home or abroad poor or rich, joy the whole year long. He has made us proud by beating the best and bringing life back into the Indian team. He deserves it with all kudos.

Name:Saifuddin Arif
Email:saifa@pangeasystems.com
Nomination:Sonia Gandhi
Reason why:For showing a political back bone lacking in almost all other frontline Indian leaders. Irrespective of her past, she should be credited for the revival of the Congress but the Congress always thrives under a non-Indian presidency.

Name:Rakesh J Boyapati
Email:rakesh_boyapati@hotmail.com
Nomination:Amartya Sen
Reason why:His winning of the Nobel Prize speaks for itself.

Name:Thomas Mathew
Email:mathew_t@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar
Reason why:His feats on the cricket field this year have brought great joy and pride to the entire nation and to all the millions of Indian cricket fans throughout the world. His commitment and team spirit is exemplary and worth emulating by the others (in the Indian team). His achievements and his person make us proud of being Indians. His strong desire and determination to give off his best for his country and his team at all times is what makes him the INDIAN OF THE YEAR in my humble opinion.

Name:Rayees Pasha
Email:mrayees@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:He is simply great.

Name:Srabani Banerjee
Email:srabani@hotmail.com
Nomination:Rajendra Singh
Reason why:

Name:Rakesh Koshy

Name:Kumbaji Gangaram
Email:kganga@hotmail.com
Nomination:Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why:Hi-tech politician who is honestly working for the development of his state.

Name:S venkataraghavan
Email:venkataraghavan@rediffmail.com,dindiz@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sonia Gandhi
Reason why:Because she managed to prove that she was after all an INDIAN.

Name:Neal
Email:emneal@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sonia Gandhi
Reason why: She's the single-handed inspiration behind a rather out of the politics party. It's all a new begining in her case.

Name:P S HARIHARAN
Email:ps_hariharan@yahoo.com
Nomination:Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Reason why:He gave a free hand to our scientists to demonstrate their achivements. He is silently fulfilling the promises made in the Joint Action Programme chalked out by the coalition. He is braving the assault from coalition parties, his own party and external powers, and remains a staunch secularist in a communal party.

Name:Anil Reddy
Email:reddy_anil@hotmail.com
Nomination:A P J Abdul Kalam
Reason why:The quiet mastermind and 'glue' for the Indian missile and satellite programmes. Thanks primarily him, the Pokhran tests were possible with such efficiency. His book Wings of Fire convinced me of his greatness. He endeavours for India's muscle power in the global arena.

Name:Suraj Nagvekar
Email:suraj_nagvekar@hotmail.com
Nomination:Dr Abdul Kalam
Reason why:It's obvious!

Name:Ramasubramania Iyer
Email:ramai_i@hotmail.com
Nomination:A P J Abdul Kalam
Reason why:Born in a poor fisherman's family and rising to such a level, is no mean achievement. When the intellect of India runs away from India, he created an institute staying in the country. His patriotism is infectious. Reading his interviews on the Internet from Down under, makes me feel whether I did the right thing by leaving India. I am now in Australia -- get inspiration from this man.

It is not easy for a man of his economic background to rise to this level. I feel Kalam's rise will signal the end of hierarchical hegemony and create a new India.

A leader is one who creates extraordinary people from ordinary people. Kalam has done that.

Name:Vimal Kansal
Email:vimalkansal@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sonia Gandhi
Reason why:Because of her cleverness which has enabled her to befool her party men, and the people of three states in believing that she is actually concerned about the country and she belongs to this country. In fact she is an outsider who will bite India as soon as an oppotunity arises.

Name:Sanjoy Banerjee
Email:sanban@singnet.com.sg
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:A description of his exploits will be a needless repetition of very recent history. His authority remains negligible, his responsibility awesome and his accountability is to the entire nation. On such a thankless mission he has achieved near impossible. For the sake of his job and nation, he has given up his private life (!!) and all this comes from a guy who is just 25! Sachin's greatness lies in the fact that he does whatever he does, being in the pressure cooker atmosphere in India. In this particular aspect no other achiever can come even close to him however great his/her achievement. As Indians we are bound to have a soft corner for this outstanding achiever of our time.

Name:Ravi Konduri
Email:rkkondur@eos.ncsu.edu
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:The only thing to cheer about in our country. There is no other superstar in this country who can keep people of all age, religion, race, sex etc., happy.

Name:Murugan
Email:honeyteq@vsnl.com
Nomination:Amartya Sen
Reason why:The reason is obvious.

Name:Vijay
Email:vbaski@usa.net
Nomination:Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why:For all his achievements in the midst of chaos... He is a role model for many people now. He personifies Vivekananda's preachings -- "work incessantly."

Name:Sudip Roy
Email:v-sudroy@microsoft.com
Nomination:Amartya Sen
Reason why:Being the first Indian to win Nobel Prize for Economics.

Name:Deepak
Email:depkr@hotmail.com
Nomination:Dr Abdul Kalam
Reason why:Dr Kalam is an extraordinary man, who has reached to the top by his amazing talent. He stands as a role model for all of us. In spite of so many wrongs in present day India, it is hearting to see some one of his background could raise to such a level is sheer amazing! Seeing him, I feel confident that we Indains can achieve anything under the sun.

Name:Anil Kumar Gupta
Email:ama.india@vsnl.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:He has shown that by hard work, any Indian can outperform the best in rest of the world.

Name:L Uma Parvathy

Name:R Vaidya
Email:vaidya@igidr.ac.in

Reason why:Obvious. No Indian has achieved what he has in the current year.

Name:Sharath Kumar B
Email:sharath@cdacb.ernet.in
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:Obvious reasons.

Name:Ganesh Ram Balu
Email:gbalu@naa.att.ne.jp
Nomination:Dr Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why:For his sincere efforts towards the development of AP and for making Hyderabad India's leading cybercity.

Name:Riyad Palia
Email:riyadp@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:The name speaks for itself.

Name:T CHAKRAVARTHI
Email:chakri916@hotmail.com
Nomination:PROF AMARTYA SEN
Reason why:I have been an ardent reader of his articles and presentations in newspapers and other journals since the last four years. I have been a keen observer of his reoriented priorities in the science of economics. For a poor country like India, with mind boggling diversities of sorts especially in the spheres of economy and politics, his new approach is a fitting lesson to take few bits from. Though we had other persons from different fields contributing a lot to the nation, the pragmatic and the practical approach that he advocated is worth crediting him with this award.

Name:Jay nitturkar
Email:Shaku@prodigy.net
Nomination:Atal Bihari Vajpayee
Reason why:For raising the self-confidence of Indians around the world, and prestige of India by going nuclear. Until India joined the nuclear club, India was considered a 'soft state,' a wimpy nation of half-naked fakirs and beggars that lacked killer-instinct and the guts to say NO. In short, worthy of being pushed around.

All the damage done by Nehruvian policies to India's image were erased by Atalji. I don't know about Indians living in India, but here in USA, India's nuclear tests are viewed as the greatest moment of pride, next only to the partition-marred Independence of India.

Only a politician who could risk everything for sake of the nation could do that; it had to be Atal Bihari Vajpayee. I vote for him as Indian of the Year. Heck, Indian of Century.

Name:monidhruba
Email:moni_dhruba@hotmail.com
Nomination:Jyotirmoyee Sikdar
Reason why:Where there was no hope, she got gold. She did not live up to expectations, but created her own. Who else but her.

Name:Anand Datar
Email:AnandD@start.com.au
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:Sachin is in a class in himself. He has set standards which only a few can even think of and hardly others can follow. He has set an example that Indians cannot only compete at the international level but reach at the peak irrespective of the age.

He is one of those who cannot only think but do the thing which he has in his mind. He has to be the winner be it cricket or the Rediff Indian of the Year.

Name:Dipankar Das
Email:dipankard@cmil.com
Nomination:Amartya Sen
Reason why:Prof Sen has been a luminary not only in economics but a visionary who has shed light on various aspects of knowledge systems. He excelled in econometrics initially, then he linked economics to humanitarian philosophies. He has also written extensively to widen Western awareness of India's culture. The Nobel Prize only formalises the stature he has achieved by his own diligence.

Name:Mohan Nair
Email:vmn@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why: There is no other cricketer in the world who can match his cricketing abilities. He has always kept the team's interest in mind and his humility is another great factor.

Name:Chandrakanth B N
Email:pairee@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:One person who has taken sports in this country to a different level. He has excelled to give India some superb victories this year and has given his countrymen something to cheer about when we are all starved for some heroes. His exploits have been so great that he is now being compared to Don Bradman.

Name:Peter Ghooi
Email:rilexp.madras@elnet.ems.vsnl.net.in
Nomination:Dr Abdul Kalam
Reason why:For being a proud Indian and dreaming about doing great things for the country.

Name:Ashish Kapoor
Email:akapoor@bom3.vsnl.net.in
Nomination:Amartya Sen
Reason why:The Indian economy is in shambles and an Indian goes on to win the Nobel Prize in Economics.

Name:N Somasundaram
Email:nsomaa@usa.net
Nomination:A P J Abdul Kalam
Reason why:I admire this great man of this year. He is the man who proved to the world about the Indian's intelligence and execution of technically high projects, like missiles, hydrogen bomb, and true patriotism. He tries to integrate all divided Indians to unite. I guess no Indians will match with him in this year.

Name:Anil Sharma
Email:asharma@wockhardtin.com
Nomination:Common Man
Reason why:Because in spite of several blows given to the common man by our great politicians, the common man has survived the challenge.

Name:P Venkata Krishna
Email:pvk@cad.delhi.nic.in
Nomination:Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why: I feel the AndhraPradesh CM is the right candidate. He is improving the state at a very fast pace and being a young politician, has innovative ideas and implements the same in a pragmatic way. One can realise this point in the way he brought up information technology in his state. Unlike other politicians, he is not procedure oriented, i e, he has done the right thing by deviating himself from the National Front and giving support to the BJP. Even with the BJP also, he is maintaining distance and is not interfering with the functions of the BJP government at the Centre. He is an object-oriented politician.

Name:Kumaran
Email:kumaran@wipsys.soft.net
Nomination:Abdul Kalam
Reason why:He has shown great things can be achieved in India inspite of working in a government with political and bureaucratic pressures. He will be good role model for pessimistic Indian youth who are bent on going abroad for achievements.

Name:Ashita Bansal
Email:aassh@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:He made a record of runs, he was the one becauseof whom we won many matches. His birthday was great as he made a century. We lost that match but won the series. That's because of Sachin only. Sachin is great and we are proud that we have such a great cricketer with us who can represent INDIA as whole. All cricketers worldwide want to play with him. He is really great. I am and Indian amd I am great because he is also Indian.

Name:Sheetal Prasad
Email:sprasad@ee.oracle.com
Nomination:The common people of India
Reason why:In spite of all the dirty happenings around them, they still are clinging on to hope.

Name:Vikram Sivakumar
Email:metastud@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:No Indian has ever had such an impact as Sachin has. There are very few Indians who can boast of being so popular and acclaimed worldwide as Sachin is. And the kind of year he has had -- breaking all records. For me he is a spontaneous choice for Indian of the Year.

Name:Pranav Shah
Email:pashah@yahoo.com
Nomination:A P J Abdul Kalam
Reason why:A P J Abdul Kalam is my nominee for the Person of the Year because of him and his team's of hard work and ingenuity. He (They) was not given clear blueprints and all the material necessary, but an alternative was found and a bomb developed. I, therefore, commend Abdul Kalam and his colleagues for their hard work. They have showed other countries that we can protect ourselves and are no slouches.

Name:Purva Sangani
Email:purva_d@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:In a year where India has seen crime escalate, corruption on the rise, politicians making hay while the country cried, this man has provided us with something to be proud of, has given us some hope for the future at least in cricket.

Name:Chetan Dikshit
Email:native_indian@yahoo.com
Nomination:The Indian voter
Reason why:In spite of being repeatedly rebuffed, this individual with the 'never give up hope' attitude turns up to cast his hope. If leadership is courage then the Indian voter has it.

Name:Cyril Rebello
Email:rebel5@emirates.net.ae
Nomination:Amartya Sen
Reason why:Besides being Indian, and winning the Nobel Prize, I think his work in economics has helped a lot in making us understand how we can help the developing world rid itself of poverty and unemployment.

Name:Abhijit
Email:a-ranade@usa.net
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:This is one person who has consistently put up a good performance. Indians world over have had many happy days because of this person.

Name:Ram Iyer
Email:ramiyer@mbox4.singnet.com.sg
Nomination:Sonia Gandhi
Reason why:Thanks to her, we have a chance of getting a stable government, after two lots of incompetent people -- and the way she is going about it, shows panache and savvy at the very least while giving us Indians one bunch of rulers.

Name:Nipun Bansal
Email:nipunbansal@hotmail.com
Nomination:Sachin Tendulkar
Reason why:This guy not only broke various records but also placed us on top in the cricket world. These days when our country is down in everything then why not in sports, at least someone is there who is world famous and makes the country known.

Name:Anurag Sood

Nomination:Amartya Sen
Reason why:He has done India proud by preaching the benefits of welfare economics and getting recognition in an increasingly capitalistic western world. Moreover, his decision to retain his Indian citizenship should be an example for other successful Indians outside India to bring home or to the roots the fruits of success.

Name:Nisha Dutt

Nomination:Chandrababu Naidu
Reason why:Well his name comes to my mind first because maybe a politician doing so much for a state is not expected, I think people in India have stopped expecting from politicians now. In the last one decade or so Indian politics has gone to the dogs and one politician no matter what his vested interests are is doing something for the people. This comes as a pleasant surprise. I do wish other politicians would learn something from him, and each one in his small way can make a big difference if we have enough political will.
