HP to make primary education compulsory
Himachal Pradesh will be the first state in the Hindi belt to impose compulsory primary education on its citizens.
Disclosing this, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said
the state government will pass a bill in the forthcoming assembly
session making primary education compulsory.
He said his government has already launched a massive illiteracy eradication programme by setting up over 2,100 schools in almost all villages in the state.
Singh said the state has been spending about 16 per cent of its gross national product on education and healthcare.
