Petition against Kesri admitted

The special Central Bureau of Investigation court today admitted petitions which sought summoning of Congress president Sitaram Kesri and Abha Mahato as accused in the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MPs bribery case.

Admitting the petition against Kesri, Additional Sessions Judge Ajit Bharihoke directed the CBI to file its reply if any.

The judge ruled that arguments on the petition, moved by accused Anadi Sharan Das and Abhay Pratap Singh, would take place after the cross-examination of accused Shailendra Mahato by counsel for all the 20 accused.

The judge earlier rejected a bunch of similar petitions moved after he allowed Mahato to turn approver in the light of his confessional statement.

The petition against Shailendra Mahato's wife Abha was moved by counsel for former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao and V Rajeshwara Rao.

The petition stated that she should be summoned as Mahato had admitted that part of bribe he had received to vote in favour of the Rao government was deposited in her account.
