More Jaipur areas come under curfew

The indefinite curfew, imposed in Jaipur's Shastrinagar and Bhatta Basti areas on Monday, was extended to the entire walled city and Moti Doongri police station areas today as tension prevailed due to the deadlock over the last rites of the victims of Monday's police firing.

The situation worsened today when a mob, gathered outside the SMS hospital mortuary in the city, squatted on the road.

Some people also resorted to stone-throwing which created panic among shopkeepers, who closed down their shops in the Nehru Bazaar Chaura Rasta and some other localities of the walled area.

The mob refused to take the bodies of the victims till their demands were met. Among other things, they were demanding suspension of the district collector and the city police superintendent.

Meanwhile, prohibitory orders have been extended to 10 police station areas of the city as a precautionary measure.
