Tirumala seeks IIM help to streamline darshanThe Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams had sought the expertise of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, to streamline darshan arrangements for pilgrims thronging the Lord Venkateswara temple in Tirumala. TTD Executive Officer M K R Vinayak said an IIM expert had visited the shrine to evaluate the existing arrangements. Based on his recommendations, the institute would suggest measures for streamlining the arrangements. On an average, about 60,000 pilgrims visit the temple every day. The temple administration is thinking of introducing a ''system for darshan by prior confirmation''. This would help the devotees to have darshan at a pre-decided time, easing congestion in the queue complexes, he added. He said a 600-room building with a taxi stand and a canteen would be constructed at the cost of Rs 60 million opposite the Tirupati railway station by demolishing the existing building. The accommodation facilities now available at the hills would be centralised and monitored through a computer link-up at Tirupati to help pilgrims move uphill after getting confirmation, he added.
