Gujral to inaugurate museum on ChandigarhPrime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral will inaugurate on Wednesday a museum which displays the sequential development of Chandigarh from its inception to the present day. The four-storeyed City Museum unfolds its display with the partition of the country. Rare documents, maps and drawings show the initial work involved in the selection of the city as the site of the new capital of Punjab. It also features original sketches, studies and drawings, submitted by an American team of planners and architects, in evolving the city's first master plan. The museum also displays Le Corbusier's models, photographs and drawings. Also featured are various projects of Le Corbusier with foreign associates like F Makwell Fry, Jane, B Drew and Pierre Jeannerat. Le Corbusier designed the city. Another section, called 'Chandigarh Today and Tomorrow', highlights the city's growth after the first phase and the departure of Le Corbusier and his foreign associates. The top floor of the museum houses a sculpture terrace and a snack bar. UNI |
