Noted actor Soman dead

Malayalam actor M G Soman died at a private hospital at Kochi on Friday.

He was 56 and is survived by his wife, son and daughter.

Soman was admitted to the hospital for the treatment of jaundice and was shifted to the intensive care unit yesterday as his condition turned worse. The end came at 1625 hours.

During his film career spanning over 25 years, he had won several awards, including the state award for best actor for his performance in Itha Ividevare, directed by I V Sasi. He had acted in the lead roles in at least 250 films.

After keeping away from the film world for a while, he made his re-entry into the tinsel world starring with Suresh Gopi in the hit Lelam.

A former serviceman, Soman began his acting career as a stage artiste with Kottarakkara Sreedharan Nair's drama troupe. Gayatri was his first film.
