Govt intimidating Justice Jain says Congress

The Congress today accused the United Front government of intimidating Justice M C Jain through Central Bureau of Investigation officers, in a bid to make him the accused for the leakage of his report on the Rajiv Gandhi assassination.

A large number of CBI officers have started harassing Justice Jain, though the judge had made it clear that he had not leaked his report, Congress Working Committee member Arjun Singh told a news conference in Delhi on Saturday.

Singh said the government would have prosecuted Justice Jain, if it could. He made it clear that the Congress could not tolerate these efforts of the government, which wanted the Jain Commission to wind up on its own.

CWC member Pranab Mukherjee, who was also present at the news conference, said the government had not shown any indication that it appreciated the Commission's findings in an unbiased manner. "Political expediency was preferred over logical and irrefutable inferences," he said.
