Pakistani Rangers and BSF troops exchanged fire along the International Border in Samba sector of Jammu and Kashmir, a senior BSF officer said.

"On suspicion we fired few rounds and Pakistan posts also fired few rounds after hearing sound along the IB in Samba sector last night", the officer said.

"However, there was no specific movement or infiltration attempt from across", he said.

"The firing continued intermittently between 2140 to 2145 hours last night", he said.

"There was no loss of life or injury to anyone in the firing", he said.

After a lull, Pakistani Rangers and BSF troops exchanged fire along the International Border in Kathua district on the night of January 11 and 12.

Pakistan Rangers on Monday night targeted Border Security Force posts on the International Border in unprovoked firing in Jammu and Kashmir, IANS reported.

"Pakistan Rangers used mortars and automatic weapons to target three border outposts of the BSF in Samba district (of the Jammu region) yesterday (Monday)," a senior police officer said.

"Pakistan shelling started at 8 pm. The BSF retaliated effectively," the officer said.

"Firing exchanges continued till 11.35 p.m. No casualty or damage has so far been reported on our side," the officer added.

Firing exchanges and ceasefire by Pakistan Rangers were witnessed along the IB in Kathua district on January 6. Five persons, including four jawans and a woman, died in the Pakistan firing and shelling along Indo-Pak border in Jammu and Kashmir in January.

Over 10,000 people were also displaced due to the firing.
