Police in the port city of Visakhapatanam in Andhra Pradesh have arrested an Australian national for firing from an air rifle and injuring a person on Thursday. The police identified the arrested person as Louis, a Melbourne-based engineer.

He was being questioned at the I Town police station in the city.

Santosh, a local youth who was injured in the firing, was admitted to a hospital in the city.

Police said the Australian had fired indiscriminately from his air rifle from the windows of his flat in Pragati Apartments on Ramakrishna Beach creating terror and injuring one person. He was found to be in a drunken condition at the time of the incident.

The police, which rushed to the scene on hearing about the incident, has seized the air gun. The Australian will be produced before a magistrate later.
