Kalyan Banerjee, a first-time Trinamool Congress MP from Sreerampur, was in his car near Vijay Chowk when the police stopped him from going further, saying he could not proceed as the "route has been laid for the convoy of the prime minister".

A senior police official said the MP, a prominent lawyer in West Bengal [Images], argued with the securitymen, saying he should be allowed to go as he was a member of the House.

"He was not allowed to breach the security...he was stopped before he could proceed," he said.

When contacted, Banerjee alleged that the security personnel misbehaved with him though he complied with their instructions.

"I was going inside Parliament as I had to get my car a security tag. Police allowed me to cross the first barricade but at the second barricade, some personnel stopped me and said I cannot go forward as the road has been sanitised for the PM's convoy. They asked me to park near Vijay Chowk," he said.

"They were not behaving properly. I got down from the car and an argument broke out. A senior police official came and said sorry to me when I complained about their behaviour. They also allowed me to stay there when the convoy passed," he said.
