Political parties try to outdo each other

January 31, 2009
Though there are cemeteries closer to Kollathur, he was buried in a cemetery at the heart of the city, to ensure maximum publicity for the event.

Political parties in Tamil Nadu -- PMK, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Communist Party of India -- are trying to outdo each other in paying 'homage' to Muthukumar. Several banners, with their political affiliations prominently displayed, dotted the funeral procession.

Other political parties like the Congress, Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam stayed away from the procession. A DMK Member of Legislative Assembly, who tried to pay his tribute to Muthukumar, had to face the ire of the crowd.
