Ruling out the handing over to India of any Pakistani national found to be involved in the Mumbai terror attacks [Images], Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani [Images] today said such persons will be tried in the country under local laws.

Speaking in the National Assembly or lower house of parliament, Gilani said Pakistan is investigating the Mumbai incident in its own interest and is not "under pressure" from India, the US or Britain.

He reiterated that no Pakistani national found involved in the Mumbai incident will be handed over to India. Rather, he will be tried in the country under Pakistani law, he underlined.

When the Mumbai incident occurred, there was a general impression that Pakistan had been isolated as a result of its foreign policy but today the country's point of view is being supported by the world, he said.

Gilani said he was amongst the first world leaders who spoke about the world's "double standards" when it kept mum on the situation in Gaza and Kashmir, where hundreds of innocents were being killed, but became vocal on the Mumbai attacks.

He also made it clear that military action was not the only solution to the law and order problems in the northwestern Swat valley. He expressed the hope that the government will soon bring the situation there under control through a new strategy.
