Obama's official pic first to be shot on digicam

January 15, 2009

US President-elect Barack Obama's [Images] Transition Team on January 14 released the new official portrait of the leader that will be hung in federal buildings after he is sworn-in as the 44th President of the United States of America.

Coverage: Obamania

The photograph was shot by Pete Souza -- the newly-announced official White House photographer -- using a digital camera. This is the first time a digital camera has been used to take an official presidential portrait.

Image: The official portrait shows Obama standing in front of an American flag sporting a blue tie with red and white stripes, and an American flag on his lapel.
