Pakistan's latest claim about Bangladesh-based Harkat-ul-Jihadi planning the terror attacks in Mumbai [Images] may have a boomerang effect.

Sabahuddin Ahmed, the main accused in the attack on the Central Reserve Police Force camp in Uttar Pradesh [Images], has revealed that the HuJI carries out its operations with the patronage of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Tayiba [Images].

In his confessional statement, which is in rediff.com's possession, Sabahuddin stated that Lashkar operatives use the porous Bangladesh border whenever they flee from India. He added that Abdul Azeez, a Lashkar operative, monitored the movements of terrorists crossing the border.

The two terror groups had planned many attacks together, Sabahuddin informed his interrogators.

He cited the example of a recent Lashkar terror plan when it targeted the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. The terrorists were trained in Pakistan and then sent to Bangladesh from where they sneaked into India. The operation was cancelled when all the terrorists were killed in an encounter in New Delhi [Images], Sabahuddin revealed.

IB sources believe the HuJI is an integral part of the Lashkar and it is controlled by both Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence directorate and Bangladesh's espionage agency, the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence. The HuJI carries out its operations only after a final nod from the Lashkar, IB sources said.

They added that the ISI and DGFI are jointly responsible for the induction of terrorists in various terror outfits like the Lashkar, HuJI, Hizbul Mujahideen [Images] and Jaish-e-Mohammad.

The youth, recruited in Pakistan, stay in safe houses in Bangladesh, IB sources say. Lashkar and HuJI terrorists train together in Bangladesh and Pakistan.
