The Delhi [Images] Police on Tuesday said it has no records of licenses of three firearms recovered from the residence of National Commission for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Chairman Buta Singh's son Sarobjit, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with a corruption case. "We are not able to trace in our records anything about the firearms recovered," Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal told mediapersons in New Delhi.
The CBI had recovered three unlicensed firearms and few live cartridges from Sarobjit's house on Saturday following searches.
A senior Delhi Police official said if someone got a license for keeping a firearm from one state and if he takes it to some other place he has to get an endorsement from police at the concerned place where he has taken the firearm.
"We don't know whether the recovered weapons had a license. Even if he had license, Sarobjit did not obtain an endorsement from Delhi Police's licensing branch for keeping it in his Delhi residence," the official added.
A case under arms act was registered against Sarobjit, who was arrested last Friday for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 1 crore from a Nashik-based contractor to settle an atrocities case against him in his favour. The atrocities case was before the National Commission for SC/ST, whose chairman is Buta Singh.
