Dalit leader slams Mayawati

April 13, 2009
Prakash Ambedkar, a senior Dalit leader from Maharashtra, has slammed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati.

Ambedkar claimed that Mayawati, who considered herself a 'messiah' of the Dalit community, had done very little for the betterment of the poor and the downtrodden sections of society.

He told rediff.com that Mayawati's policies were not aimed towards social engineering, but towards political engineering. Ambedkar alleged that Mayawati was acting in collusion with the upper castes to further her own interests.

He also criticised the media for projecting Mayawati as the sole representative of the Dalit community.
