'We do not blame all Christians'

September 18, 2008
The Bajrang Dal has been in the thick of the action thanks to the incidents of violence that rocked Mangalore. While these incidents in which churches were targeted have received nationwide condemnation, the Bajrang Dal swears that it was not the churches it was against, but it was raising its voice against conversions.

Bajrang Dal Karnataka unit convenor Mahendra Kumar, who has been speaking out against forcible conversions, spoke to Special Correspondent Vicky Nanjappa about why the violence erupted and his outfit's agenda.

Why did things go out of control in Mangalore, and what was the provocation for your men?

A day before the protests started, a booklet was issued by the New Life Trust in which derogatory remarks were made against the Hindu gods. What was the need to issue such a booklet? We have been watching New Life for quite some time now and I can vouch that these persons are forcibly converting people in the state.
