Raj Thackeray's [Images] wife Sharmila sat on a dharna outside the Manpada police station on Wednesday , where her husband has been kept in custody, after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief's supporters were stopped from meeting him, leading to tension in the area and prompting authorities to clamp curfew.

Sharmila went to the Manpada police station, about 60 km from Mumbai, on Wednesday morning to meet her husband. The police allowed her to go in but prevented others who were accompanying her.

An angry Sharmila squatted in front of the police station saying she would not move till her husband comes out of the lock-up.

Curfew has been clamped in the area around the Kalyan court, where Thackeray was to be produced, and the Manpada police station, police said.

The police had a tough time dispersing the crowd which had gathered around the police station and were maintaining a tight vigil.

Thane had witnessed arson and rioting on Tuesday in the wake of Thackeray's arrest in connection with the attack on north India candidates during a railway recruitment examination in Mumbai and surrounding areas on October 19.
