Seventeen persons were killed and about 30 others injured when terrorists triggered a powerful explosion at Khumathong in Imphal, the capital of Manipur, at around 7.25 pm on Tuesday.
Sources said the victims included a few security personnel. Sources indicate that the bomb was planted in a moped in the area that is close to a barrack of Manipur State Police Commandos and a camp of Assam Rifles, both of which are engaged in counter-insurgency operation in the state.
The injured were rushed to Regional Institute Medical Sciences in Imphal. The identity of the militant group involved in the blast was yet to be ascertained.
