The much-delayed monsoon session of Parliament will resume sittings from December 8 after assembly elections in five states.

This follows the Bhartiya Janata Party's demand to cut short the session to allow parties plunge into electioneering in the five states, a top government source disclosed. The resumption will coincide with the counting of votes in the five states.

The Left parties protested at the government clubbing monsoon and winter sessions of Parliament and making mockery of the parliamentary system by trying to continue with the current session in December instead of calling a new session. "We have no objection if the session is shut on Friday but then both the Houses should be prorogued and there should be a new winter session in December," CPI-M leader Mohd Salim said.
