Assam: Five injured in blast

Five persons, including a woman, were injured when a low-intensity bomb went off  near a Durga Puja pandal at Japorigog in the heart of Guwahati city at around 8-30 on Wednesday.

Police said the blast was of low-intensity though the sound was heard from quite a distance. The bomb was planted at a construction site in the vicinity of the puja pandal. A CRPF jawan who on duty in the area received minor injury in the explosion.

The injured were rushed to Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) The blast created a crater on the ground. Senior police and district administration officials rushed to the spot immediately after the blast rocked the locality.

The police said identity of the culprit and kind of explosives used in the explosion couldn't be ascertained off hand. Investigation was on.
