October 05, 2008 19:11 IST
Under pressure over its atomic programme, Iran on Sunday warned that the Indo-US nuclear deal has 'endangered' the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty and will trigger a 'new crises' for the international community.
'The method used by several nuclear states to transfer the technology to non-members of the NPT, will create new crises for the international community,' Deputy head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organisation Mohammad Saeedi said was quoted as saying by the official IRNA news agency.
'Cooperation in the area of transfer of nuclear technology to the NPT non-members will endanger the treaty,' he said, adding that although India is enjoying nuclear weapons it is not a signatory to the NPT.
He said that 'privileges' to India, which is not a member of NPT, will endanger the treaty.
Both Houses of the US Congress voted in favour of the landmark nuclear deal this week and President George W. Bush is expected to sign it into law on Wednesday.
