Ajay Katara, a key eyewitness in the high-profile Nitish Katara murder case, was on Friday arrested by the police for allegedly kidnapping a man and unlawfully entering his house in Indira Nagar in Ghaziabad on Thursday evening.

Katara was later produced in a court, which sent him to judicial custody for 14 days in connection the incident in which Dharmendra [Images] Yadav was allegedly kidnapped but subsequently rescued amid high drama outside his house, with his wife and neighbours raising an alarm.

According to the complaint received from the victim's wife Manjula Yadav, the incident took place around 4.30 pm on Thursday in their Sector 4 house when Ajay allegedly came to her house with four others -- two police security guards, a private body guard and driver.

Area SSP L Ravi Kumar said Indirapuram police have registered a criminal case against Ajay, his private guard and driver. They have been booked under legal provisions including those dealing with abduction for murder and unlawful entry.

The case against the three was registered under IPC Section 364, 511, 452 and 352. The SSP said no action could be taken against the two police security guards who were provided to Ajay Katara in connection with the Nitish Katara case.

The complainant alleged Ajay Katara and others forcibly entered her house, abducted her husband and tried to force him into a car.

She alleged when she raised an alarm, her neighbours and passers by rushed in for help and not only surrounded the car, but also freed her husband after pelting stones at it.

Ajay, who was sent to Dasna district jail, claimed in his defence that he was innocent and alleged that he had been a victim of a conspiracy hatched by former Rajya Sabha member and Bahujan Samaj Party leader D P Yadav, whose son Vikas and nephew Vishal were sentenced to life imprisonment in the Nitish Katara murder case.

Ajay alleged the complainant, Manjula, was related to D P Yadav who was behind the fake complaint against him.

When contacted, D P Yadav denied any links with the Indira Nagar abduction matter.
