Delhi HC allows blasts accused to consult lawyers

October 03, 2008 17:10 IST

The Delhi [Images] High Court on Friday directed the city police to allow all persons arrested in connection with the September 13 serial bomb blasts to speak to their advocates and relatives.

A bench comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice S Muralidhar passed the direction on a PIL filed by an NGO,
People's Union for Democratic Rights, which alleged that the arrested persons were being deprived of their constitutional rights by not allowing them to consult their lawyers.

Delhi Blasts

The Court asked the police to allow Zia-ur-Rehman and Saqib Nissar to meet their relatives and advocates in
the evening and made it clear that the police would provide similar facilities to other arrested persons also if they make
a request on similar lines.

Rehman and Nissar were arrested by the police from Jamia Nagar on September 20, a day after two alleged militants
were gunned down in an encounter.
