Denouncing the Mumbai terror strikes as 'mindless' acts, President Pratibha Patil [Images] on Thursday appealed to people to maintain calm and expressed confidence that the perpetrators of the attacks would be brought to justice.

"This mindless attack is the work of those who have no regard for human lives, and are pursuing a path of destruction," Patil, who is on a four-day visit to Vietnam, said.

The President expressed confidence that the perpetrators of the attacks would be brought to book and hoped that the sufferings of people would come to an end quickly.

"Such acts are highly condemnable," Patil said in a statement. She asked people to cooperate with authorities at this crucial moment.

The President's office is in close touch with the Prime Minister's Office and the Maharashtra government on the situation, sources said.
