Will the Lotus bloom again?

November 13, 2008
AAdvani recalled that the state unit of the BJP had passed a resolution in support of Telangana in 1998 itself but the central leadership of the party could not fulfil it as some of the allies of the NDA were opposed to the Telangana state.

Without naming the TDP, Advani said that if the party had changed its position during the NDA rule and supported Telangana, the smaller state would have become a reality. "I would have moved the resolution for Telangana along with Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and Chattisgarh", he said.

Referring to the call of the film-star-turned politician Chiranjeevi to him some time back, Advani said that he gave him his blessings and hoped that he would bring the same revolutionary changes as another film star NT Rama Rao had brought in politics. Advani hoped that Chiranjeevi would also extend support to the BJP and the NDA in the formation of Telangana state.

Ghaddar, the popular folk singer with pro-Maoist ideology, also attended the rally. Specifically addressing him, Advani said that despite ideological differences with him the BJP was willing to work with him for the formation of a progressive Telangana state.

Advani urged the people to compare the record of six year long rule of NDA with five year rule of the United Progressive Alliance led by Manmohan Singh before casting their votes in the next Lok Sabha elections.

"The Congress had promised in 2004 elections to take care of Aam Admi but it has done the greatest betrayal with the same Aam Admi by failing to check the rising prices of essential commodities", he said. He said the five year UPA rule was a history of betrayals.
