The Maharashtra government on Monday approached the Bombay High Court, challenging the interim relief granted to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray [Images], by the Kalyan sessions court.

The prosecution has challenged the interim relief granted to Raj in his anticipatory bail application, claiming it to be
'illegal', as Raj's custody was transferred to the Kalyan railway police.

SC issues notice to Maharashtra government over MNS attacks

"Once Raj's custody has been transferred to the railway police in another case, the sessions court cannot grant him relief in that matter. The relief should have been granted by the Kalyan railway court," Special Public Prosecutor Rohini Salian told PTI.

Raj was produced before the Kalyan sessions court in connection with the attack, allegedly by MNS activists, on north
Indians who had arrived there to appear for a railway recruitment board exam.
