Senior leaders of the Congress party said that it was unfortunate that a senior leader like Alva who is incharge of  selection of party candidates in Mizoram should have made the comments public through the media when there were so many other methods to address the complaints within the party.

Alva's criticism was described as nothing more that 'emotional outbrust'.

Alva's office at the Congress headquarter remained closed throughout the day . Attempts to contact Alva did not succeed.

Sonia Gandhi [Images] is likely to return to Delhi [Images] from Bhutan late on Friday night and then she would take a decision on the issue.

" If Sonia Gandhi needs to seek clarification, Alva may be summoned by the party high command. If she takes any action we would let the media know," a senior party leader said.
