Retired soldiers demand pension hike

Retired soldiers and ex-servicemen gathered at a soldiers' memorial in a suburb of Chandigarh demanding a pension hike. They went on a hunger strike to protest being shortchanged by the sixth pay commission. Indian army Chief General Deepak Kapoor expressed the hope that the central government would correct the aberrations in the ex-servicemens' dues.
