'I won't be surprised if Rahul becomes prime minister one day'

May 22, 2008

It is generally believed that she doesn't carry the ambition to become prime minister of India but rather it is believed that everything she is doing is done for her kids. Do you agree?

I am inclined to agree with this.

Why?

Because she feels it is too much to expect to continue to be in the thick of politics and yet be able to retain her charisma. This is our analysis but probably this is the way her mind is working. She thinks that charisma is attached more easily to her and will be more sustainable in the case of her kids.

Do you see Rahul Gandhi becoming prime minister one day?

Frankly, I won't be surprised if he becomes prime minister one day but I don't think he will last very long. Till now he has not given any indication that he either has large scale public support or charisma. He may have potential for it. But at this moment he is not managing the nitty-gritty of politics which his mother is managing.

Her daughter (Priyanka Vadhra) probably arouses more confidence in some Congress stalwarts who are with the family.
