Three days after an illicit liquor tragedy struck parts of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in which 87 people lost their lives, 16 people died on Tuesday in yet another hooch tragedy in border villages.

The killer brew claimed 16 lives in Hebbagodi, Attibele and Sarjapur in Anekal taluk bordering Tamil Nadu, where several people had consumed the illicit liquor on Monday, police said.

It is not yet known how many people were admitted to hospitals.

With this, the toll in the Karnataka hooch tragedy including parts of Bangalore city, Kolar and Anekal -- shot up to 78.

"Given the present scenario, the toll in all likelihood may go up," Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) B K Singh told PTI.
