Gilani wants army to stay out of politics

March 31, 2008
Signalling the military to stay out of politics, Pakistan's new Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani called upon the armed forces to call back all army officers from civilian organisations within two weeks.

Addressing the lower house of Pakistan's parliament after getting an unopposed vote of confidence, Gilani said that governance is the right of the people, which they vest in their elected representatives.
