Two suspected United Liberation Front of Asom militants were killed in an encounter with the army in north Assam's Lakhimpur district while two other persons were injured in a blast that rocked a small western Assam town in two separate incidents violence in the state on Saturday.
Security sources informed that two suspected ULFA militants were killed following a gunbattle with a team of personnel from the 2nd Bihar Regiment in a village under Narayanguri police station in Lakhimpur district of Assam early on Saturday morning.
In a separate incident of violence, two persons were injured in a blast triggered by militants in a market at Abhayapuri town in western Assam's Goalpara district at around 7 pm on Saturday.
Police suspected the hand of ULFA militants behind the blast.
Senior police officials rushed to the spot following the incident of the blast. The bomb was triggered near a medical store in the market of the town.
