Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker K R Suresh Reddy accepted the resignations of 16 Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLAs, who had quit their seats to protest the failure of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government to create a separate Telangana state, in Hyderabad on Friday.

It may be recalled that the 16 TRS MLAs had submitted their resignations to the Speaker in the Assembly on March 4. Three TRS Members of the Legislative Council had also submitted their resignations to Chairman A Chakrapani.

The TRS MLAs alleged that the Congress had deceived the people of this backward region by reneging on their poll promise for the formation of Telangana state. 

On March 3, four TRS Members of Parliament, led by party president K Chandrasekhar Rao, had submitted their resignations to Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee. The resignations were accepted later.

Legislature Secretary K Tuljanand Singh, in an official bulletin, said the Assembly speaker accepted the resignations of the following TRS members: G Vijayarama Rao (representing Ghanpur constituency), Nayani Narasimha Reddy (Musheerabad), ERajender (Kamalapur), T Harish Rao (Siddipet), A Chandra Shekhar (Vikarabad), K Nagesh (Alair), E Ravinder Reddy (Yellareddy), Ch Laxma Reddy (Jadcherla), S Ramalinga Reddy (dommat), V Laxmikantha Rao (Huzurabad), K Prathap Reddy (cheriyal), Mrs M Padma Devender Reddy (Ramayampet), T Padma Rao (Secunderabad), A Govind Naik (Khanapur), K Eshwar (Myadaram) and Gaddam Ganga Reddy (Dichpalli), with effect from March 7.
