The Centre has thrown the ball in the state's court on the Gorkhaland issue.
The government made it clear on Tuesday that it was ready to consider a proposal, if the West Bengal government comes up with it.
A delegation led by Gorkha Jana Mukti Morcha General Secretary Roshan Giri met Junior Interior Minister Sri Prakash Jaiswal in New Delhi.
Gorkhas, the ethnic Nepalis, are demanding a separate Gorkhaland to be carved out of West Bengal.
