G M Banatwala, president of the Indian Union Muslim League, died in Mumbai on Wednesday after a brief illness, family sources said.

He was 74. Banatwala's wife died few years ago.

Ismail Banatwala, his nephew, told PTI that he lived with his brothers in the city after the death of his wife. He had no children.

Ismail said his uncle had attended the IUML's platinum jubilee celebration in Chennai last Saturday.
