For the players, Sachin's presence was the crowning glory. 'I touched Sachin's feet. I never imagined I would ever meet him. Rahulbhaiyya has really gave us an unmatched gift,' Tilak Singh from the Sangrampur team, was quoted in the media, while for another player it was the 'golden moment' of his life.
Also in attendance was the BCCI vice president and Congress leader Rajiv Shukla along with a few of UP Cricket Association's selectors. Shukla said Gandhi was overwhelmed at the response and by the talent pool available in the countryside.
The Amethi MP said he was keen on organising rural sports like kabaddi and volleyball, but the prevailing mood was for cricket. 'My job was to make an opportunity available for young village boys who wanted to meet Tendulkar,' he told the local media.
'The tournament is a great opportunity for promoting cricket in rural areas, and it is great that Sachin himself is here,' Priyanka too chipped in with the media on Monday.
