US, Pak cosy up again

July 29, 2008
Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani met United States President George W Bush in Washington on Monday, during his maiden visit to the country.

Relations between the two countries have been strained after the Pakistan People's Party led-government took charge earlier this year. While the PPP's ally Pakistan Muslim League chief Nawaz Sharif has openly slammed the US policy on terror, America also upped its rhetoric by demanding that Pakistan was not doing enough to stop the resurgence of the Al Qaeda on its border with Afghanistan.

During their talks, Gilani did not rule out adding more muscle to the military operations in the war on terror while Bush said Islamabad must do 'more' on this front.
