Soon after the blasts on trains on July 11, 2006, the railways had announced that it would be beefing up security at important railway stations and on trains in Mumbai.
Metal detectors were set up at important termini like Chhatrapati Shivaji terminus and Churchgate. Security on local trains was also beefed up.
Among the measures:
* Metal detectors at all stations
* More security personnel
* Ban on 'non-commuters' inside stations
Two years on, correspondent A Ganesh Nadar decided to travel by the city's various railway networks – Western Railway, Central Railway and Harbour line – to see if the measures announced then were still in place.
More importantly, to find out if the commuters found anything different about train travel in the wake of the new security measures.
