Four militants were killed in separate encounters with security forces in Kupwara and Shopian districts on Monday.

Acting on a tip off, police cordoned off Alaypore village in Shopian. The militants hiding in a house opened fire at the security forces and in the ensuing firefight, two militants were killed, official sources said.

The sources said a search operation was going on in the area till last reports came.

In another encounter, two militants were killed on Monday in an overnight encounter with security forces at Mandigam village of Kupwara district.

They said the identity and group affiliation of the slain militants was being ascertained.

One militant was killed in the gunbattle, which began on Sunday.
