Madhvi Sarkar has waited for justice for ten long years. Her husband, Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Ajit Sarkar, was shot dead on June 14, 1998, allegedly on the orders of Rashtriya Janata Dal Member of Parliament Pappu Yadav.
On Thursday, Yadav and his two associates were awarded life imprisonment by a Patna court.
"We waited for 10 long years for Pappu Yadav's punishment," said Madhvi
"We are happy that at last justice has been done. The court verdict gives us some satisfaction. Now Pappu Yadav will spend the rest of his life in jail and he will realise the mistake of killing a popular leader," Madhvi told rediff.com in a telephonic conversation from Kolkata.
Madhvi, a CPI-ML leader, said that she was thankful to the court for awarding life imprisonment to Pappu. "We never wanted the death sentence for him. With the life term, he will have tough days in jail for a long time" she said.
She said that her two children were also satisfied with the court verdict.
