Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] on Friday left for Lohitpur in eastern Arunachal Pradesh to visit army camps there.

Arunachal Pradesh Governor Gen (Retd) J J Singh, Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu and state Finance Minister Kalikh Pul accompanied the prime minister in an army helicopter, which took off from the Rajbhawan helipad on Friday morning.

The governor and the chief minister will accompany the prime minister from Lohitpur to Chabua airport base in Assam to see him off there later in the day.

The prime minister alongwith several Central ministers and high officials arrived in Itanagar on Thursday on a two-day maiden visit to the border state.

This was the first visit of a prime minister in Arunachal in the last 12 years.
