Notwithstanding the chill in bilateral relations, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari [Images] and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani [Images] have sent their New Year greetings to their Indian counterparts.

Zardari and Gilani have sent their greetings to President Pratibha Patil [Images] and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] through the Ministry of External Affairs, sources said on Wednesday.

In their greetings, the Pakistani leaders have wished Patil and Dr Singh well in the year 2009, they said.

The messages assume significance as these have been sent despite the chill in the bilateral ties in the wake of Mumbai [Images] attacks.

India has been pressing Pakistan not to be in denial mode and cooperate to ensure that perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks are brought to justice.
