The Uttar Pradesh [Images] police on Monday said they have identified one more accused in the PWD engineer murder case and said efforts were on to nab him.

"We have identified Bhatia [named in the first information report filed by the slain engineer MK Gupta's wife Shashi Gupta]. He is district Bahujan Samaj Party president Yogendra Dohre, who is also known as Bhatia in the area," Additional Director General Law and Order Brijlal told reporters.

"We are conducting raids to nab him on information provided to us by prime accused MLA Shekhar Tiwari and three others who are in police remand," Brijlal said.

THe BSP had replaced Dohre with Shiv Pratap Dohrey on Sunday evening. Dohre has been missing from his house in Devraen village for the past two days. His two cellphones are switched off.

About another accused with surname Tyagi named in the FIR, he said: "Probably someone among those arrested have the nick name Tyagi and we are trying to confirm it."

He said another criminal case has been registered against the all accused for firing and beating up a station master and a porter at Auraiya on December 22.

About the inquiry into the case, Brijlal said the police have collected ample evidence and are also utilising services of the forensic lab in Agra [Images].

On the motive behind the murder, Brijlal said that Gupta did not use to sign papers on the directions of the accused.

Gupta was killed on December 24 allegedly by BSP MLA Tiwari and his supporters after he refused to pay up for the birthday celebrations of Mayawati [Images], a charge denied by the state government.
