As the early trends for the assembly elections in five states came in, the Bharatiya Janata Party said it was disappointed with the outcome in Rajasthan.

The trends suggested a clear defeat for the ruling BJP in Rajasthan while it is in a neck and neck fight with Congress in Chhattisgarh. "It is sad. The results have been depressing in Rajasthan," party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters.

While the party is relieved that its government is returning to power in Madhya Pradesh "defying the Uma Bharti factor", it is hoping to retain Chhattisgarh.

"We are hopeful of Chhattisgarh and Delhi," party leader Prakash Javdekar said.
