Surjeet's cremation on Sunday

Prominent Left leaders will lead the funeral procession of CPI-M leader Harkishen Singh Surjeet, who passed away on Friday.

CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat [Images], West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee and CPI general secretary A B Bardhan will be the part of the procession.

"The party did not ask for land for his cremation, nor the Centre gave one for our veteran leader," party leader Nilotpal Basu told rediff.com, while giving details of the last rites which will be held at Nigambodh Ghat. West Bengal's former Jyoti Basu would not be part of the procession.

The body will be taken out of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences at 6am to his house where it will be kept till 9am.

"From there it will be taken to the party headquarters and cadres will be allowed to pay their last respects. The cremation will take place at 5pm," Basu said.
