Priyanka Vadra this morning confirmed to CNN-IBN television channel that she did visit Nalini, the lone surviving member of the assassination squad that killed her father, former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, in Vellore jail in March.

"It's completely personal, I don't want to say anything about it," Priyanka told CNN-IBN. But "I did visit Vellore to meet my father's assassins."

The meeting took place on March 19.

Nalini's mother too confirmed the meeting between the two women, which has been described as "very cordial".

Rajiv Gandhi was killed by a team of suicide killers in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, on May 21, 1991. Nalini, the lone surviving member of the team, was sentenced to death but the sentence was commuted to life after the intervention of Rajiv Gandhi's widow and Congress president Sonia Gandhi [Images].
