Militants of the United Liberation Front of Assom killed Ratan Deka, a 52-year-old employee of a college in Guwahati, at his ancestral village of Boragog in Kamrup district on Friday night, said the police

Family members of the deceased informed the police about the incident on Saturday morning.

According to the family members, an unidentified youth came to Deka's residence on Friday night and called him out for a 'brief discussion'. After some time, the family heard the sound of gun shots and rushed outside.

They found Deka lying in a pool of blood. The police said that Deka was shot thrice and he probably died on the spot. They are trying to find out why the militant outfit targeted a college employee.

Meanwhile, the Kokarjhar district police succeeded in rescuing businessman Harinder Singh on Friday night, who was abducted by the Adivasi Chaotali Tiger Force, and arrested six members of the ACTF.

Singh was abducted from Gossaingaon town in Kokrajhar district on Thursday night.
